4th of July Weekend: Top Destinations, Worst Times To Hit The Road & More!

Fourth of July is this weekend and according to AAA, about 2.7 million people in Southern California are expected to travel by car. People traveling by car this weekend can expect to hit heavy traffic on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoon; so the best time to travel on holiday weekends would be early in the morning.

The busiest freeways on Thursday and Friday will be the 10 Freeway, Interstate 405, CA-57 and then the 5 Freeway in Los Angeles will of course be the most congested. Below are some of the best and worst times to travel:

  • Thursday- Best Time: before 7am and after 8pm. Worst Time: between 2pm and 8pm.
  • Friday- Best Time: before 10am and after 9pm. Worst Time: between 12pm and 9pm.
  • Saturday- Best Time: before 12pm and after 7pm. Worst Time: between 2pm and 4pm.

Although gas prices have being slightly going down in SoCal, the Auto Club suggests some ways to help maximize fuel efficiency when taking road trips. Some of these tips include:

  • Make sure tires are properly inflated.
  • Get rid of extra weight in your car and try not to use the overhead luggage racks since they can create a drag.
  • Drive the speed limit and use cruise control when it's safe.
  • Park in the shade and use window sun visors to help lessen the heat inside your car.
